Organisational Development

How do you react to change?

When it comes to change, you’re told to assess and adapt. But change can be a far bigger opportunity than that. It can be the catalyst for making the world a fairer, kinder and more sustainable place to live.

How? By being more proactive about the challenges we’re facing, by widening our focus and changing things for the better.

I offer a range of methods to support organisational development including action learning, leadership development programmes, strategy development facilitation, research and evaluation of impact, board development, training courses and team development programmes.

  • The heart of strong strategy development is getting the senior leadership and board to explore, identify and articulate where the organisation is going and why it needs to go there. My services facilitate the different stakeholders in the processes of clarifying the options and choices that are part of the strategy.

Your organisation’s culture is both a vital foundation for what you do, and a nebulous concept that can be difficult to identify and articulate – let alone transform. Yet making a change to your culture can have lasting positive ramifications, building your capacity, capability and effectiveness. I design and facilitate programmes that can help you make this sort of change. How? Read this case study about how I helped an organisation navigate their own cultural transformation.

  • I regularly design and facilitate board development processes. These range from carrying out governance reviews, to delivering fun and engaging training with your board to learn how to be effective.

My knowledge about effective boards comes from a lifetime in voluntary boards, combined with working as a Public Appointment Advisor for the Ethical Standards Commission, advising the wide range of public body boards. These public body boards are responsible for £1.7bn of public spending. The principles of good practice in governance are the same. Read some case studies about the work here.

  • I design and deliver training courses for a variety of settings. These range from short courses on specific management and leadership practices to longer leadership development programmes.

  • Action learning is a practical process that enables diverse groups of managers or staff to support each other in solving complex problems. It’s a great tool for building genuine collaboration, creating deep-rooted culture change and developing more effective leaders.

I provide action learning programs within a variety of change management and capacity building projects.

I’ve written about how Action Learning sets work, while you can also read a case study about an organisation transformed by an Action Learning approach I developed and implemented.

  • I design and deliver leadership development in courses and long-term programs workshops on different subjects around leadership, management and governance. Each programme is unique to your organisation, your values and your goals. Read about an example program here.
